This glossary defines keywords used on the North Square website:
Accessibility is the study of online applications and their user's ability to access, understand and interact with them regardless of the user's ability, environment, platform and connectivity. The W3C (Glossary: W3C) has created and continues to develop guidelines to help developer's achieve levels of conformance. North Square Interactive assists developers in achieving desired levels of conformance with our Accessibility Evaluation.
Accessibility Evaluation is a service offered by North Square. An analyst's examination of a website demonstrating the actions required to pass W3C's Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. The results of the analysis and evaluation are hand-typed in a PDF report. Companies who have not carried out extensive usability testing and / or received a website evaluation report from a professional organisation are highly recommended to use our Website Evaluation service instead, which covers navigation, design, usability, content, accessibility and more (our Accessibility Evaluation is a sub-section of our Website Evaluation service).

Competitor Analysis is a service offered by North Square. A website benchmarking service providing organisations with an opportunity to see how their website fairs against a selection of competitors (usually 5 to 10) and FTSE 250 companies (usually 3 to 5) in the same sector.

The Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) is UK legislation that addresses the provision of goods, facilities and services. Section 3 of the DDA, which refers to accessible websites, came into force on 1st October 1999.
A bread crumb trail is a navigation tool normally found near the page title that indicates to the user where they are on the website and offers them a quick route back up the organisation's hierarchy. For example, a bread crumb trail at the top of our Website Evaluation page would be as follows:

An IP address (Internet Protocol) is a number that identifies a computer on the internet, allowing information to be sent from one computer (e.g. a website server) to another (e.g. a user's PC)
Log files are records of raw data of web site traffic e.g. number of users, user paths through the website, IP address.
Log File Analysis is a service offered by North Square. This service is aimed at organisations currently not analysing their log files (Glossary: Log files) or those seeking greater understanding of their log files. W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) is an organisation that establishes and promotes best practice standards for website development. W3C is responsible for defining many coding standards including XHTML, Cascading Style Sheets and the Web Accessibility Initiative.

Usability is the art of creating an online application that maximises users' ability to achieve their objectives (e.g. purchase a product, find out required information). Usability is usually measured by the ease at which user's learn to use the website, their efficiency at using it and the satisfaction derived.
Usability Testing is a service offered by North Square. We study and analyse target audience users in their attempts at achieving objectives for which the online application was created (e.g. purchase a product, find out required information). Our evaluation of the results are geared to increase usability.

User conversion rates is the percentage of users who perform a task for which the website was created (e.g. buy a product, fill in a form) versus the total number of user's who visit the website.
